Looking up your ballot

When you enter an address, we use it once to find the districts it falls in, then show the contests for those districts. We don't store or log the address. To geocode it, we send it to Google (or to the U.S. Census Bureau geocoder). Your shareable ballot link contains only a short district code, not your address. The address you typed stays in your browser tab so we can show it on your ballot page, and is cleared when you close the tab.

Signing up for reminders

If you choose to fill in the sign-up form on your ballot page, we save what you submit: your first name, email address, mobile number and address (each only if you provide it), which of email and text messages you agreed to, the wording you agreed to, the time you signed up, and the districts from your ballot lookup (such as your county and city). We don't save your IP address or browser details.

We use this information only to send you election reminders and updates from desi.vote, such as:

• when ballots are mailed and the deadlines to register and vote
• reminders about the races on your ballot
• occasional updates about future voter guides

Sign-ups are kept in a private spreadsheet that only desi.vote organizers can open. We keep your information while we're sending reminders and updates, and delete it when you ask us to.

We don't sell or share your information

We don't sell, rent or share your information with anyone for their own marketing. We do not share mobile numbers or text-message opt-in consent with third parties for marketing. We may use email or text-messaging services to deliver our messages; they process your information only to send them on our behalf.

Opting out, corrections and deletion

• Text messages: reply STOP to any message. Reply HELP for help.
• Email: use the unsubscribe link in any email.
• To see, correct or delete what we have about you, email [email protected]. We'll respond within 30 days.

The checkboxes on the sign-up form say:

• Email me election reminders and updates from desi.vote. Unsubscribe anytime.
• Text me election reminders and updates from desi.vote at this number. Up to 4 msgs/month. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help. Consent isn't required to use this site.

Cookies and tracking

We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are used, so we can improve the guide. It sets cookies and sends Google the pages you view, your browser and device type, and your approximate location. It never receives the address you enter: your ballot page link contains only a short district code. You can block it with your browser's privacy settings or Google's opt-out add-on. We don't use advertising trackers. Your browser also remembers your text-size choice on your device.

Children

desi.vote is meant for voters and isn't directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect their information.
